I departed early (6am) Sunday morning with photo gear in tow with the intent of traveling an hour down I-5 to photograph some Sandhill Cranes. After a pit stop at Peet's Coffee (the best!), I arrived to my destination, but was extremely disappointed to see how thick the fog was. Angered, I drove further South, then headed East on Hwy. 120 with the intent of getting out of the fog and shooting some nice landscapes. The car was running great and I was really enjoying the drive on this highway I had previously never driven. Well, 3 hours later, I pulled through the West gate at Yosemite. Yosemite is amazing year round, but it's particularly special in the winter months when the roads are clear, snow is on the ground, and the crowds are small. I've attached a couple pics of El Capitan and Yosemite Falls.
The drive home was uneventful. IMO, there's nothing like cruising the CA foothills at 60mph. The small towns are great and the scenery is inspiring. Trip totals: 8 hours driving; 375 total miles; 27mpg.
