1975 115 300d relay

I am still looking for the gp relay in the above model. Can anyone help? The local MB shade tree has only had 240d's where the relay was outside in the engine compartment. The MB dealership mechanic says it is under the driver's side kick panel in way of the steering column. Neither one was right.

The 240d relay is black plastic with 3 mounting feet on it. None to be seen on my car. The dealer mechanic says that it is a silver box about the size of a cigarett package. There is a silver relay about half that size but none on the plug numbers correspond to those on the wiring diag.

My gp light only comes on when the key is in the start position. It takes5-10 secs. of cranking but the car does starts. I have no light in the #2 position. The relay and the gps were replaced about 15k miles ago. I tested all the plugs and they are good, but obviously can't test the relay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tks.

I have a shop manual which has the electrical diagrams for my w115 240D. Was your shadretree or MB dealer referring to a w115 240d or a w123 240d?

Are you still uncertain as to whether or not the relay is black plastic or a silver box?

I think I can get one of those from a car up the road.

I have an interview tomorrow in the a.m. in Tampa, so I won't be able to get to the car until later in the afternoon. If not, I will aim for thursday.

I have the electrical schematic for the car but it does not show the location of the relay. The shadetree has owned a couple of 115/240d but had never worked on a 115/300d.

The MB mechanic I use in Corpus Christi is the head mechanic for the local MB dealer. He does after hours work on the side. I have used him a few times and he seems to know what he is talking about. He told me the relay for the 1975 115/300d is silver and about the size of a cigarette package. He reckoned it was under the steering column but I can't see it from looking up from the floor area. I think I will pull out the instrument cluster and try from there. I can't believe that for a component that needs to be replaced from time to time that they would make it that hard to find. Still, that kind of logic is why I am working in the muc and the engineers have clean offices.

Randy, thanks for the good words about the car. I really did luck out when I found this one. I told my son that he can use the car as long as he wants to and doesn't abuse it. Fortunately he is not hounding me for a Mustang, for all the good that would do. The mnute I see any signs of abuse I get it back and he gets my 1982 Chevy Diesel truck that is mostly held together by the foam they use to seal holes in houses. Still it runs like a bat, gets 20 mpg. and loves fry oil.

My service CD says under the dash. You could chase the wire backwards from the glow plug. Perhaps push a coat hanger or piano wire through the grommet in the firewall so you can see where the wire continues.
