a tale of two 1987 300D vehicles............

Similar vehicles sold on the same day, with decent feedback from both sellers.

One has photos and one does not.

Hmmmmm................

On ebay, the more pictures the better, but that just makes good sense on a medium where you are bidding on things you don't actually get a chance to see in person before you win them.

Also, the Florida 300D uses the one picture that shows its been wrecked before, as it has a 1990-95 diesel right front fender.

Good point about the pictures. It might seem to be no mystery, but some sellers just don't get it. Some other observations:

(1) One auction has a counter showing 1626 views; the other shows 565.

(2) One seller put the word "diesel" in the item title; the other did not. It helps to take advantage of the search function. Perhaps this is at least partially responsible for item (1) above.

(3) One seller uses "all caps" in the item description, in blue, no less, which just about makes my head 'splode...

This is the second time the Florida 300D was listed. The first time it went for 6800 or something. Non-paying bidder.

I bid on it both times "knowing" I wasn't going to win, then he dropped the reserve to around 4K. Which is fine by me.

He says if he doesn't get his money today, I can buy it for $4500 That's more than it went for.

I'm with eskimo, lack of "300d" in the title, all caps, and one pic didn't help his sale price any.

Naturally, condition is everything, but, $4500. doesn't seem like an excessive price if the mileage is legit.

It certainly has the RF fender from the wrong vehicle, which warrants caution.

The first one is a clone of my 87 300D less the ugly-ugly fill-in tail lights, my opinion, and less the chromed wheels......are those chrome steel, or are they polished aluminum?

Too much wood work begines to look rinky-dink,(the glove box looks like a barn door) my opinion, but cant tell if the interior color is the same or a shade darker?

The second car has a newer model right front fender probably indicating a front end replacement after an accident........hay why stop there, should have put the 94 hood and grill on too!

CarFax and his reported mileage on the auction page do not jibe. CarFax says 144,488 as of 12/2001. I'd be happy to email the report to anyone who is considering the car. And yes it had an accident reported.

Yeah, that wood is weird... did they swap the entire dash for a later one, or just slap on one of those stick-on veneer kits?

The Lower Priced Auction Is Typed In All Caps. I Think This Is A Mistake Because It Is Annoying And Difficult To Read. Especially When It Is Long And Doesn't Really Say Anything.

I typed the above in all caps for effect and the forum software changed it to what you see. I think that in itself is an example of what I am saying. All caps is a recognized error. Comes across like a cheap radio that is turned-up too loud.

TWITCHKITTY THATS AN INTERESTING OBSERVATION ABOUT THE FORUM SOFTWARE I TRIED IT MYSELF JUST TO SEE AND I OBSERVED THE SAME THING IF I JUST ENTERED IT AS A SIMPLE RESPONSE BUT AS YOU CAN SEE IT DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK QUITE THE SAME WAY IF I AM ALSO QUOTING YOUR ORIGINAL POST SORRY BUT IT ALSO SEEMS THAT IF I TYPE IN ALL CAPS THAT I AM ALSO UNABLE TO USE PUNCTUATION MARKS CORRECTLY BUT I GUESS THATS OK BECAUSE ITS SO BLASTED HARD TO READ ANYWAY.

EVEN A SIMPLE RESPONSE SEEMS TO ALLOW ALL CAPS IF A DIFFERENT COLOR IS USED I GUESS THATS BECAUSE USE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR AS SHOWN IN THAT ONE AUCTION REALLY MAKES THE TEXT EVEN EASIER ON THE EYES.

WHY CAN'T YOU TYPE A RESPONSE IN ALL CAPS?

I did it in bold.
