I recently bought this 1982 300d turbo. When I bought it I knew there was an issue with the transmission and on the way home the odometer was about 10% off the whole way meaning to go 75 I had to be going nearly 85 on the speedometer. he tires are the right size, I checked 195's. the transmission had been replaced.

Anyhow 10 miles from home after 470 miles fourth gear dies the car shifts in to 3rd an that dies and I soon loose second...I limped it home in first.

my questions are

#1, Is it possiblethat when the transmission was exchanged they put thw wrong transmission in it like on geared for a less powerful vehical?

# 2 How do I check to see if the correct transmission is in the car now? I certainly don't want to repair the wrong transmission.

# 3, Is it possible to repair this transmission and change the rear end gears to suit it so i don''t end up with all the revs any more once i am on the road again.
