Hi all and thanks for ckecking out my post. I have long enjoyed my 240D, all 300k miles. Recently the odometer has decided to stop going on my trips. Just sits there. I have tried pounding and screaming but it doesnt seem to help. The spedo works just fine. Any sugestions other than its hammer time!

Very common problem. Many solutions posted in search. Basically it amounts to slippage on a shaft. Roughen up shaft replace parts and your fixed. No financial cost but a little time and effort.

Or the plastic gear/s could be worn.
If they are you can generally find speedo's and instrument clusters on ebay.

I tried roughing up the shaft on two odometers without much luck. Not that that is a bogus fix, you just have to catch it just right I guess. Superglue is the answer, it has worked twice for me, and after taking apart more of the first one than I needed to, the second one you just move the shaft over, thru the slipping gear, add glue, and move shaft back.
I love superglue!!

I worked mine over the day before yesterday with great results. After getting the instruments out took about 10 minutes. The secret that I found in another post here is to use a drill bit that is aproximately the same size to slide in as you remove the shaft, rough up the shaft a little aproximately where the metal gear sits. (I used a pair of needle nose pliers) Put it back in and you will once again have a working odometer!
