Buzzing black box
For some time now, there's been an intermittent buzzing noise coming out from the general area around the left of the steering wheel. The buzzing has generally been short and rare enough not to bother me, but it got worse lately, to the point where it may buzz on and off for a good part of my 15 min commute. I finally got annoyed enough, removed the driver side footwell cover, and through grabbing whatever I can while buzzing was going on (while driving -- this was a fun thing to do) I pinpointed the source to be a small black box connected to a three-hole plug. The box says "000 821 0963" on it (spaces added to make it look like a MB p/n), and also has a small schematic picture with numbers 49, 49a and 31 given as contacts. According to the Electric Troubleshooting Manual, this is an "electronic flasher solid state", which I guess means "flasher relay" in modern English.
There's quite obviously something wrong here, I don't think this relay is supposed to buzz. However, my turn flashers and hazard flashers appear to work fine, so I'm a bit puzzled. I would really appreciate if someone could offer some insight on the following: 1) Does buzzing indicate that the relay itself is bad, or is it a sign of some trouble elsewhere? I don't want to shoot the messenger... 2) Has anyone had this particular buzzing issue? Search didn't turn up anything. 3) Looking up the p/n on several parts websites turns up different results. The sites that offer Worldpac fare show a four-prong box that doesn't look like the one I got. *************** shows mine. The two don't really look interchangeable to me. Have any other early 126 owners had any experience buying this part? Anyone got a used one I could buy/borrow? Thanks in advance, yuri |

Just pull the buzzer temporarily to see whats missing. Have no knowledge but suspect not signal flasher. If it is your signals will instantly cease to function properly. The seatbelt, door adjar or key in ignition far more likely is the buzzer function you are identifying. The buzzer is just probably doing it's job with a sensor defect involved.

The flasher unit (below the wood in front of the shifter) is electronic. (Why Mercedes? Why make the ONE thing electronic that didn't need it? ) Every time my hazard button gets touched off it's off seat, it will make a nasty howl.
