Anyone have state pay pothole damage?

Just thought I would put that out there. I've got some damage to the oil pan and left side engine shock and rubber went south after a nice cavern in the route 257 high way got me.

Tried to weave the red tape.

I'm in the process of filling out the "proper" dark red tape that leads to a repair bill. The mechanics I went to Here in Columbus all had a good chuckle and walked back to the work bays. They told me I have get a state official to look at the hole then foto the said hole, caress it and tuck it to bed before some state crew decides to fill it in. This official has to be a state Trooper. Like this is going to happen. I'm feeling screwed. Documented all info-7 weeks and nothing in the mail.

Well being from Pittsburgh originally...I know what you mean.....I would n't be surprised if they required you to take the pothole and keep it for evidence....

And yes...I bet they are haing one hell of a laugh at your expense. But seriously I have heard that if its unattended for a certain time you can try to claim it....but getting them to pay it is a whole different puppy.

it's a well kept secret in South Carolina.... the state has tons of money to pay for pot hole issues..... it's cheaper in the long run than fixing the roads.

Most people don't know about this fund.

"the state" is the tax payers correct?

i think the focuss here should be status of the roads and not the symptoms of the condition of the roads.

becuase the more people who want compensation for the symptoms are taking money away from the cause, in my opinon.

I wish you luck trying to get the state to pay up.
I believe if it's a city or county road there has to be a pothole complaint on record before they will pay up.

I know growing up in New York City it becomes second nature dodging them.

True but he is in the pothole belt.....western PA through Indiana and north....every winter they break out like Acne on a teenager with a chocholate and fried food obsession.....(due to freeze/thaw cycles)....meaning they are everywhere.

yeah this is the land of ugly roads - and Ohio is no gem for roads in the first place...

a mother of a friend of mine hit a bad one here in NY on a state road...it bent i believe both wheels on the one side - the state did end up paying for it according to his story....i have not fisrt hand proof, nor do i know how hard it was to get the money / repair....

a county road or town road i imagine is a different story in itself...

My dad told all of us to carry a throw away camera in our car for insurance reasons...if you get hit, hit some one or find a pot hole, deer, ect...you can document it right there on the spot...

good luck
jake

Locally, there was a guy on the news because he became so fed up with potholes, and damage to his cars, on a street to his house that he filled them himself, at his own expense.

Here's the clincher: the city said that what he did was illegal! (They were unconcerned that he had contacted them many times for the past two years.)

Ha! if I tried this in CT, they'd bill me for the pothole inspection, (adding sales tax of course!)

Hey, BHD - Out here in AZ it's easy to dodge hailstones and raindrops. If fact, the only way you can get wet in a lot of our rainstorms, is to run around.

Wes
