The part that is not wanting to go "in"...Are you talking about the metal fitting that is supposed to screw onto the oil cooler?

No!

No, It will leak, any good parts store should be able to find a hose that will fit or buy one from Fastlane via this web site..I would not do it..

I would think that if you absolutely want to use "rubber hose", that it would be best that you go to a hydraulic shop, and have them make you a hose with the correct ends on it. If you use any ole hose, it might not be able to take the temperature, pressure, or be oil resistant (or all three).

Last thing you would want is for the hose to fail (burst/spray/melt/whatever) at the worst time (in traffic/on a highway/going to work when you're already late).

You would also need to make absolutely sure that the hose would not rub up against anything...using one of those plastic sleeves might help, or even a large garden hose split down the lenght.

I think those hoses are reinforced with wire to withstand the pressure from the lubrication system. A plain rubber hose will blow with catistrophic results like a total loss of oil pressure. The right hose is cheaper than a new engine.
