which vac. component?

is located behind (in the shadow of) the "pancake" of the brake booster? One of the componetns there has one of 2 vac. connections missing.
It seems to have one connection over behind the intake/exhaust manifold...
...The one I'm thinking of is on the passenger side of where the master cylinder penetrates the firewall but is behind the booster, mounted tof the fire wall on the th engine bay side....Is that confusing enough for you???

I suspect that you're describing the "overboost protection" or "switchover" solenoid valve. See this thread, or search the forum for more information.

If the intake manifold pressure rises too high (e.g., failure of wastegate to open), then this valve disconnects the "pressure signal" going from the intake manifold to the ALDA on the injection pump. The IP then no longer increases fuel delivery as a function of intake pressure, dramatically reducing available horsepower (and preventing a meltdown).
