Front seat removal 1984 300SD

OK, feeling pretty inadequate and dumb, but how do I remove the passenger front seat on my W126? I have done the search and can not come up with an answer to my problem. There are 4 10mm head bolts that are located in the wells of the runners. I have removed those. The seat does not budge. There are 2 10mm head bolts at the rear of the seat below the runners that, if removed will allow the rear of the seat to lift, but I can't find any other bolts at the front which are comparable. Help, please! If there is a thread that lays this out, please just cite it and I will use it, but I could not find one.

Tom

If you are removing the whole seat assembly from the car it's 4 bolts and the seatbelt guide mounted to the side of the tunnel in the rear footwell, it's under a plastic cover, don't break it. I think you've got the right idea if you found the two bolts holding the rear down. Now, slide the seat all the way back and do the same in the front. It's possible that there are little plastic covers over the track mounting bolts in the front. Remove those covers if you have them and you'll see the other two bolts. Be careful as the seat weighs about 65 lbs and is a bit difficult to maneuver, you can break and scratch things when getting it out the door. Good luck

Thanks Astroman,

I found the bolts with your help, the seat is out now and on the bench. Don't be surprised if I ask some more dumb questions today.

OK so you get the seat out. How do you remove the frame from the seat to get to the springs?

You can easily reach the springs with the seat out, but the seat frame has heavy riveted fastening to the "rails" which double as a pivot point during adjustment.

Unfortunately, the two broken spring pieces are not easily accessible. I have to remove the seat from the frame. Just like you would have to do to replace the whole spring and seat pads.

That's the first place I looked. There is one tutorial in the DIY Articles but it doesn't help. It shows a 123 seat which is clearly different. There are no motors in the frame which was never removed.

Then there's this in the DIY Links section:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/133500-pictorial-how-repair-your-broken-seat-springs.html#post978231

The link to Dieselgiants tutorial doesn't even show the seat removed at all. But one person did say it could be done but never said how.

That's as far as it goes and before the thread dies.

just finished that chore, a pain
you have to power the seat forward and back to access the screws attaching the spring 'frame'
set it back in the car, connect the plugs and power forward or back
the center screw is accessed through a hole in the lower frame

like I said, a PITA
