W123 85 300D seat rebuild

Does anyone have any info on how to rebuild seats so that they are firm as brand new?
Mine sag badly and they drive me crazy.

Obviously thats par for the course for a 20 year old car with a perfect power steering pump, sunroof, radiator and engine and electrical system (since when does a power steering pump get you 300K miles?) so I am not complaining. I just would like to fix them.

Also where can I order the parts?

Do a search for "pool Noodle" there was a thread in the last two weeks on this with pictures......

or you can buy a new seat spring base. Which I think is best..but not the cheapest way. If you get one from a passender seat they will interchage adn the pass side seat will typicly have less wear

I rebuilt the drivers' seat in my car. It sits much firmer now. All I did was remove the bottom seat cover, steam the foam that's sewn to it with a foam steamer(thingy that upholstery shops use to decompress old foam, and it kills microbes to boot) and add a seat-bottom-shaped piece if carpet. It keeps the springs from digging into the foam. I laid the carpet across the top of the seat bottom on the springs and put the seat cover back on. Very little cost involved with this.

Carrameow,

To restore the seat to new condition will depend on whether the seat frame has broken spring wires or not. If it does, pool noodles will be a mediocre fix. The proper solution is to replace the spring frame. However, the cost is $250. or so. Finding one from a passenger seat is definitely the economical way to go.

The seat has a shaped foam bottom that can also be replaced to achieve "like new" condition. It can be obtained from Gahh for about $100.

I replaced the frame on the SDL, but did not do the pad, although I should have.

BTW, I still have that seat overhaul booklet from ************** that you are welcome to borrow when you do the seat.

Don't really need to go to expense if your springs are still intact. Just steam the foam out and slip a piece of carpet in there. You might even put some Dacron on top of the carpet(use spray adhesive) to poof it up even more if you want. Mine's like 1000% better now, it used to pour me out into the street when I opened the door. Only thing is my seat bottom up/down lever pull thingamabobber's jammed.

Welcome Casey, No I do not have the booklet mentioned, but have
replaced these springs many times. It is not a hard job and nothing
to shy away from. I replaced my first seat bench in a 300D in less than
1 hr.

Get the seat out and follow what you can on the rebuild threads and
post more specific questions if you run into problems.

I'm convinced that I did not misplace it. Ask Cammameow (Richard) if he has it. I do believe I gave it to him.

The best suggestion I can make is to use a digital camera as you dissasemble the seat. then you have something to back to on reassembly.

the screws that hold the seat tracks on are a PITA to remove. you will have to move things just right to get the screws lined up just right to get the screw driver down a hole. believe me, they will line up, but you will be pulling your hair out.

I worked until 2AM one night here on the kitchen floor, replacing the spring box because of 2 broken springs. I wanted to keep going while I had it fresh in my mind, but I wasn`t too fresh at 2AM. Installed the seat, and now I don`t have seat height. It is all the way up. I didn`t hook up something. at that point I wasn`t ready to remove the seat again.
