replace my tranny or sell the car ''as is''

so my tranny does indeed need to be rebuilt and replaced the only problem is I don't know if my 82 240d with 330,000 thats slowly falling apart and the paint is shot, warants the work I kinda worried about spending money on it, it's A gamble BTW I am not doing the work A real pro, is I have no where to fix my car at my house so thats out of the question. It's A real bummer cause I really like the car even as run down as it is. spend the money fix it and keep driving it while crossing my fingers nothing else BIG happens to it, or sell it for next to nothing? damm I hate making these decisions

It makes absolutely no sense to put $1500. in a transmission for a 240D in "mediocre" condition when you can purchase a decent 300DT for $3500 or less.

The 300DT has more power and will last a minimum of another 100K without too much cost, if you buy it right. The 240D will cost much more to go this distance, if the engine can do it. |

If you're near Silver Lake Cal Janet has a real nice 240 with a bad engine for $400. Might make sense to buy it and put in your engine if it's a good one.

				does it still move???

As long as she can move,,, keep driving it. These tranny's will run another 20-50K miles even after they slip into gear. I once had a 240D that used tranny fluid. I would drive until the engine roared but the car didn't go any faster, and then I would add a quart of tranny fluid. Did that literally for years.

you didnt say if it is auto or manual. if manual a good used on can be bought for 3 to 400 and installed for 2 to 300.
