What you can't have!!!

Another cool example of what was not available in the US. I can figure out its a 1985 300SD with manual it what appears to be very good condition. Love how the burl wood standard and available only on our 500 series w126 is standard and/or available on all w126 in Europe.

AND THEN...someone in Germany is selling a US Version IN Germany

That 300SD over in Germany is a conversion job, a gasser to diesel deal. It has a normally aspirated OM617 diesel engine whereas the REAL 300SDs had the turbocharged 617s, and were for the U.S only. Still, a W126 diesel with a manual transmission would be quite nice.

Japan, really? They must have been "gray market" or something. W116 and W126 300SDs were for the United States and Canadian markets ONLY. Being shipped there from the U.S to Japan is the only way they could have gotten there.

Japan got anything in the 80's because they had the money to buy them. Any diesel W126's over their were originally shipped to this country.

Their are a lot of really sick AMG W126's poping up in Japan now!

Wasn't the W126 also produced in South Africa?

126 stick

no reason you can't buid one. you'll need a pedal cluster, bell housing flywheel and clutch assembly. may need a rear end unless you want to stick with stock high gear. i have thought of it often and would probably pull the trigger if my 126 tranny went south... but it is shifting flawlessly at present.

A w126 Diesel turbo will still be faster and easier on drive system components with a automatic tranny.

I am guessing there is a good mechanical reason they didn't stickshift any of the 300SD w126's.....torque?

What do they do in the 560's to keep the drive train together?
