For about $10k you should be able to find a nice 94-95 E300D. The 96 could be a good deal as well. A properly tuned 606 should fire off like a gas car in the winter. Just as long as the fuel isn't gelled.

I would also consider late W124 gas sedans. 94-95 E320/420's. A nice 1995 E420 could be a real gem.
