It should be. take out the liner on the left side of your trunk. I believe thats where it was on the 99's.

On my 97 all I needed was an adapter plug and I connected to my Alpine 6 Cd changer. I believe in 98 0r 99 MB went to an optical or digital wiring. I would check with an Alpine dealer. Still cheaper than an OEM changer.

Wiring is under the carpeting in the well on the drivers side.

It is wired on the left well of the trunk. You need to find the orange fiber optic wires and a couple of electrical wires. For that trick you will need a geniune MB unit and the SDS. Since you probably won't have an SDS, your friendly MB dealership should be able to do it for you for a small fee, if any at all.

If your car came with a built-in Mercedes phone, than the phone equipment may have been installed on the left side of the trunk, In that case, the wiring for the CD changer will than be found on the right side of the trunk.

Mine was that way.

I thought in 99 you have the phone wires in the center console and the keypad is the phone button thing?

I purchased a Becker changer and it plugged right into the wiring on the left side of the trunk. No dealer input or "reprogramming" was required. I paid about $400 for the changer as I recall. That was about 5 years. It has worked great since the day I installed it. It is the same unit MB wanted $995 for as an option. The only difference is the cover on the unit reads Becker instead of MB. I know this because my wife has the same unit in her ML320.

It will take about 10 minutes to install. Good luck.

Thats pretty good. Usually if you just plug it in and don't recode the optical ring it will work for awhile and then just stop one day.
