New V8 Diesel for E Class
I saw on GermanCarFans.com, that there is a new high tech V8 Diesel, that Mercedes-Benz, will sell in the E Class cars shortly. With M-B's, new V6 and BMW's twin turbo-compound inline 6 Diesels, it makes todays Diesel engines almost crude in comparison. The electronics alone takes them into a new realm for a Diesel. These engines are complex and will we be able to change the oil and filters on them without special compensations? The costs? Will the average middle-class citizen be able to afford to buy them, let alone maintain them? Is the party over?

20 years down the road and 300K miles, they're trash. Plain and simple, no contradictions. This is absolute fact(everything wears). I'd stick with the simple 3-valve M113 with the 7G. Can get to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, and return mid 20's highway mpg. AND the engine has potential to last several 100's of thousands of miles, AND it seems friendly to work on as parts age and require replacement. Let's see how that 7G holds up. Again. It is a new technology, but MB doesn't usually have many problems with transmissions. Wait..........wait........wait....we'll see..

This is the Quad Cam, Twin Turbo,4.0, C.D.I. that goes in the "S" and
Glendewagon in Deutchland (Actually the 4.0 C.D.I. goes into the "G" in Tuscaloosa, Alabama) [they bring the engines in through Charleston,S.C.] So, If you are very lucky... you can wait alongside I-16 between Macon + Savannah and see car carriers with 4.0 C.D.I. "M" class enroute to the port of Savannah... and eventually Germany. |

Ok, I got a question, if we are now receiving the CDI, here in the US, and soon they will offer the M in CDI form here. Can we then legaly run the other Diesel lines here in the US. If the UK spec, and the US spec,(low sulfer diesel) is the same, can we not use them here???? I would love to have a new CDI G-Wagon!!! or even a little C-class to run around in! What is your thoughts on this? Thanks!

I read that article. I don't know of any sources that claim the new CDI's are coming to the US. I have heard that the V-6 320 will probably be in the E-Class and Sprinter. I think if Bush gets his diesel tax credit I think you will see a huge influx of diesel vehicles. Wouldn't a diesel C-220 class be a good commuter for us regular folks. We can hope. Shame they build the diesel G class in this country then don't sell them here. I see a few on ebay from time to time.

Well, we do have the E-class diesel here, more orders on the way. We are to get the M-Class CDI next year. My point, is if these can be sold here, why can't we order any of the cars in diesel?? I am going to call my local dealer, maybe they can clarify. I would just have to go east and pick up my G-wagon CDI
