Have you seen the car?

I have a friend who spent $$$$'s restoring a 240D to mint condition by a professional restoration company for nastalgic reasons.

If that was the case here, it would be better than new.

$17k isn't much to restore a car. He would need to provide recepts(sp?) for everything put into it, to make the car worth more.

I hate to think what it would cost to have a professional do what a lot of us DIY'ers do ourselves...

Probably $50k-$100k depending on what you want. A very nice paint job is $10k alone. Then figure new glass, driveline, suspension, wireing, vac lines, interior, sound proofing, other stuff. Labor at $70-$100 an hour.

The body would be stripped down to a steel shell and sandblasted. Then every part will be labled and numbered, and gone through. If you want a concors car factory marks will be reproduced and every nut and bolt will be proper and perfect.

You won't get your money out of a $17,000 restoration unless the car is a very rare one. Unfortunately, that '76 300D isn't one. I wonder what the reserve is. Bet it doesn't sell this time around.....

If I were spending $6-10k on a paint job I would have changed it to something other than powder blue.

values

i wouldnt and couldnt spend that kind of money on restoring a garden variety car... but it is hard to put a price tag on pride of ownership.... people spend lots more than that on removing wrinkles.... and of course they always come back.

Odometer reads 11,317. Owner states that the car had about 70,000 miles on it when the odometer stopped operating. When the car was restored, the odometer was fixed. Car has had only 8,000 miles put on it since the restoration.

Interesting how they fixed the odometer, but started it at 3317. Should read:

Odometer reads 11,317. Owner states that the car had about 270,000 miles on it when the odometer stopped operating. When the car was restored, the odometer was replaced with a different one that was rolled back to add value to the vehicle. Car has had only 11,317 miles put on it since the restoration.
