The more I think about it the more I think the price is actually not all that high...I think a smart MB dealer would buy it and stick in on the showroom floor as a display item and conversation piece. Kinda like those old Vettes and Mustangs you sometimes see at the US car dealers.

I emailed the seller with some questions but never heard back. The thing is, if a car is over 25 years old it apparently is a lot easier to import than if it is less than 25 years. 25 years and older don't have to conform to any US specs from what I have read.

This one is probably over 25 years from the date of manufacture but is 24 model years old. I'd assume the Gov't would use date of manufacture to determine the car's age since model years are inconsistent, some start in April and some in October.

Has anyone had experience bringing a car in from Canada? Is it hard to do?

The way I would import that thing is drive it accross the border and try and register it here. Knowing how stupid the DMV is it will probably slip right by. Since you would have to get collectors car insurance on that thing with an agreed value of say $15k, they will probably not be confused by the different vin.

as an example if you take too many fish over the border they will confiscate your fishing equipment including the boat. i would take no chances on having the paperwork not complete.

Anybody notice that the the two relays on top of the drivers side fender are missing their plastic cover?

I must admit....it has one of the cleanest engines I have seen in a long time!

I have seen cars like this. First thing comes to mind is really checking out the car to deal with any age related deteriation. Have seen bills on cars older than this with less than 10k to bring them back up to good serviceable condition. They were fairly expensive. Someone spotted the dirty brake fluid so do not think this one has been done. Hope those are not the original tires. Air conditioning I suspect would also have deteriated with time. If storage conditions were good perhaps a couple of thousand would bring it back though. On the otherhand one could get some unpleasant suprises. Just thought would throw this in as he does not mention anything.

Those definitely look like the original Continental tires.

ART is meant to be hung on a museum wall and admired....

Cars are meant to be DRIVEN.

I'd get collector's insurance on it, and drive it right up to the yearly mileage limit for the insurance (usually 2,000 or 2,500 miles a year.)

I have crossed only 3 times and every time coming back in to this country they just ask a few quick questons and wave me on. I find it to be very lax. Just say you bought a car and are bringing it home, what do they know?
