You can outbrake a sub 3K lb Civic but can you outrun it? LOL. Get a pyro and pull the IP governor cover to change things for the better.

Definitely.

Try holding 3rd until 86 mph uphill WOT, then shift up when you're ready for 90. They like that. With the way people drive in New England, that shouldn't be considered a wreckless act.

Just today, on my way to work I was bordering the century mark. In fact, anytime I'm on I95 I at least hit it once.

I only follow, though. Never lead. The vehicles I DO follow are SUV's maxxed out at their 100 mph limiters!

The 126 is more like a speeding locomotive. The rest of 'em are tanks though.

Here are some pics of the '92 260E at the junkyard. These are pretty bad. I'm not saying this car is any less "tanklike" than any other MB, but I bet something hit this car pretty hard. You can't see it in the pictures, but the RF door/side of the car is sitting on half the passenger seat. I doubt a passenger would have survived with a seatbelt if one was in the car. These are not for the eyes of a 124 freak.

It looks like a train hit it! Or a H2 going 50+mph would probably do that.

Was that thing,...Wrapped around a tree? The B-pillar took all the force, the doors held together and the car stayed in one piece. It would've been tight, that's for sure.

The B pillar was cut clean from the roof. As was the door posts there. There were all cut/broken in the same spot.

Thanks

1985 300sd a tank.

I drove a 1981 123 for seven years which I thought (and still think) is a great car. All the driving and abuse would have destroyed any other car. That 123 was a third generation with 210,000 miles when I first got it, and then became a forth generation with my cousin in California. Now I have a 126, which is more refined and less sporty than the 123 was. However, I like the bigger trunk and smoother ride the 126's have. One things for sure, I will not sell that 126. I gave my 123 to my cousin, to drive a gasser. Now that I have a Benz diesel again, you can really appreciate what a great car it is.

Tank

I second all posted opinions: W116 is in my mind the most heaviest construction of all

I agree with the previous post. I've driven a 116, 123, and a 126 and the 116 really does feel tankier. I'm not saying it's necessarily the safest of all the listed cars, but it feels that way.

Thanks
David

540k! Most of the pre war MB's make ours look like tin cans.

Or maybe a Dusenburg! MB just falls short of them, but so does everyone else. Except maybe RR and Bently.

I was watching a show and Jay Leno was driving one of his Dusenburgs. I8 with a blower and a very long hood.

I vote for the W140

I am weighing in on this thread a bit late, but I have had several 123's, one 126 and now have two W140's. While the 126 was a very nice road tank, the W140 is a sport tank with an attitude. There is a little plastic on the front and rear, but the chassis and side panels are rock solid.
