Oil pressure..
While driving the oil pressure gauge in the 300D is pegged at 45. At idle after a highway run, or spirited driving, it hovers around 15-20. The oil on the dipstick, even when I top it off seems to hover right around the middle of the dipstick. I've heard many diesel MB's seem to hover around the middle mark, so I wa curious if this was true.
Thanks Kyle

dippy
if you filled the oil til it reached the top mark, it should stay there til it burns off.

Kyle,
Some say that the MB engines will burn oil faster when they are filled to the full mark on the dipstick. Therefore they may tend to hover around the middle mark. P E H |

I don't know that this is true, but one theory I heard about the quick level drops to mid-way from full was due to the location of the turbo return pipe? I remember someone saying that they thought that the extra half quart puts the level right at the junction of the retun pipes. Is this true?
Thanks David

That's not necessarily the cause, because both my non-turbo engines burn oil quickly to the mid-point.

Thanks Rick, that's what I was curious about. I guess I'm lucky, my SD leaks a quart to 6500 miles
