Parked two years ago with plans to replace emergancy brake system to pass inspection. I spent about $400. on clutch system right before parking it. Well, there it sits with great engine and trans (4 sp), but paint is fading, and interior & tires are drying out. Needs a good once over now. I have a new battery "ready to install" and many extra parts. "Wish I had time to rehab - mileage was fantastic!"

I live out here in the land where Craig Newmark started Craig's list. Most people on Craig's list in the Bay Area are a tight knit group, but there are some weasils out there. Why are you looking at cars in NJ when you live in Texas?

Probably for the same reason that I read the adverts of pre-war Bentleys and Aston Martins in the back of the English magazine, Classiccars, or the reason I check out the MBs for sale on ebay Deutschland. Or for that matter the reason why I read the NY Times, The Boston Globe, The Guardian, Le Monde Diplomatique, Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Army Times on line and not just the local Austin American Statesman.

You seem to imply that you are some pretty hot s**t for living with your pal Craig Newmark. Well, if you are calling me a weasel I suggest you jump into your famous San Francisco Bay.

Whoh! Back off dude. First of all I've never met the man, and second of all I never inferred that you were a weasel. On the contrary I was looking out for your best interest. I've been a member of the CL group since the time that only a handful of people knew what it was. In those days it was a tight knit group that was honest and sincere.Since that time lots of people with less than honorable intentions have started posting on it in hopes of fleecing members of a trusting group.I don't know how CL readers react in your area, but here many are still protective of the group and shut those less than honorable people down.About a year ago a an unscrupulous car dealer started using CL to peddle his junk. CL members banned together and flooded his phone lines and email until they ran him off.

Also reading newspapers from around the world is one thing, but looking at run of the mill cars 2000 miles away and describing them in detail is a waste of bandwidth unless you actually plan to buy one of them.

Autozen, I thought it was a cool post since I'm in NJ quite often. It's useful info for people on the east coast (and dreamers around the world). I recently had a gentleman fly from Alabama to buy a car from me (in PA) and drive it home. He couldn't be happier. Such is life...what's the big deal?

Aren't you the grouchy one! I see nothing wrong with the post. You seem out of line however.
And I just love your 'I've seen it all, I was here first' attitude. Real cool.

Wasn't there a thread several weeks ago lamenting the unsolicited, misplaced and senseless rudeness on shopforum? ?? Yes there was, I remember starting it.

I agree, the original post had nothing wrong with it, and was in fact interesting as it commented on an interesting 220D fintail. On the other hand, the "senior member" who has posted several rude and "know-it-all" replies has clearly hijacked all entertainment away from this thread. Perhaps it should be closed down.

And yes, there are a lot of freaks on craigslist....

Close this one down.

YIKES, that was some bizarre first exchanges in posts, both sorta got off track, now even I feel uncomfortable. But always glad when someone has done some leg work to find cool stuff and cool Mercedes Diesels on ANY site.

Twin Exhaust

I'd love to have the Fintail, but if it's been restored to original condition what's it doing with a twin exhaust?

Craig's List and California

Resentment of the Bay Area is quite normal, even among certain natives. I got my 1999 E300 Turbodiesel from Craig's List, actually. The chap lfrom whom I bought it lives nearby and, though I had to stick a lot of money into the car, I cannot say that I was fleeced. Surely I was fleeced because everything in this silly place is far, far too expensive. I am sure I could have made a better deal, but I am very happy with the car. In fact, my independent Mercedes mechanic in Palo Alto had first suggested Craig's List. I read it every day to see what sort of diesel Mercedes are on offer hereabouts. The Daimler-Benz dealer for San Mateo county even advertises the smuggled in 2005 E320CDI's on Craig's List, in fact. I am also glad someone confesses to reading Der Spiegel on line. Es lebe Otto Diesel!

Yeh. You're right. Seen it all and done it all so I guess I'll turn this thread over to you starry eyed kids. I don't have much interest in some fintail on the East Coast. I've owned enough of them in my lifetime.
