You are correct about flashpoint. I was confusing my terminology, and what I was referring to was the "autoignition point". Gasoline's low flash point makes it dangerous, where diesel's flashpoint is normally higher than ambient temperature. Biofuels are even higher.

What do you mean by gasoline "burns better"? Certainly not in a diesel engine or a lean burn, gasoline burns like crap. Yet another instance where diesel rules on fuel efficiency.

I should have said gasoline burns at a lower temperature (once it's ignited). Just ignore the word "better".
