I am so obsessed with it all that I can remember absolutely everything either I or my dad do to the cars....

I am no fanatic, but I try and keep my '84 300D in running order. Some things I do myself, like oil change every 3-4K, coolant every 12 months, and some other minor things, but I send it to the mechanics for brakes and tranny fluid change (every 30K). I do need to troubleshoot my sunroof, I think it's the switch, but am not sure. I also would like to fix my odometer. My driving habits are very consistent, so I have a pretty good idea when I've gone about 3K miles.

Yeah, my car is filled with clutter. I change the fluids regularly but I use the cheap stuff (can you say 88 cents for one quart of oil? I know I can....)

Keep em nice

I really like to keep my cars in good shape. I try to do as much of my own maintainence as possible, but now living in a retirement community and having sold "ALL" my tools just five years ago at auction, I work with a real handicap.
But I am always looking to pick up the basic tools to keep my very good running W123 300 Turbo running its best. It loves WVO greatly and I have been running 60 to 70 percent WVO this summer. I just picked up the 27 mm socket for the front crank this morning and I bought two 14 mm open ends, (very thin ones) at the flea market to bend for valve adjustment. I change oil and service the transmission very regularly, but find that just a little messy, so the Indy that keeps the 96 Towncar in shape will work on the Mercedes also. The Lincoln is beyond me. If it stops, call the tow truck. We did just put on a fast 6000 miles on it in July, and it was a great ride and fuel mileage was very good, but I just can't get myself to work on that car.
I am 73 years old now and find it difficult to get under the vehicles and even more difficult to get up and off the creeper. But when it cools off I will take the time to get under my Mercedes to check things out and also under my parts car to remove the starter and exhaust. I just can't send that beauty to the scrapper until I get everything I want off. I am still hoping that some other member will be able to make use of the fine doors and other body parts on that 83 W123. Price is very low, free if you want to come by and take it off yourself. Color is very dark blue, almost black. Front fenders I am keeping. Interior is very worn, but seats are good - parchment interior. Write me if you need more infomation.

I maintain my wagon pretty well mechanically but can never seem to keep up with the cleaning of the inside. It gets a mess so quick! The outside is always maintained.

My beater 240 gets the fluids changed and thats about it. I just put a set of used tires on it today versus the wagon which has new tires. And...you guessed it...the used tires came off the wagon.

Cheers,

Bill

Hey,
I do as much as I can as time allows.
In the past 6 months:
Replaced brake fluid with synthetic
Replaced oil 2-3 times
Adjusted valves twice
Put in a woodruff key to correct timing
Repaired vacuum pump and vacuum system
Replaced ball joints
One diesel purge and oil filters
Two new front tires
2 coats of wax

Things to do:
Replace tranny fluid - as soon as the filter comes in. Probably next weekend
Subframe bushings and whatever other rubber needs to be replaced
Clean and test injectors

I think I do a pretty good job for a weekend mechanic keeping it in shape inside and out.

Danny
