How well do you maintain your MB?

Now here is a subjective queston, but here goes. How well would do you take care of your MB? I know we bash non car people for ignoring their cars and not changing the coolant, oil, ect.

So fess up how does your maintaince stack up!

For me I change all the fluids and filters ahead of schedual using only top of the line stuff. OE filters, Mobil 1 oil, trans, and rear end oil, MB power steering fluid, coolant, and brake fluid.

My SDL is also never (I mean never) dirty. I am a little fanatical about keeping it clean. Even my SD is well keep pretty clean.

Mobil 1? I expected better from you Hattie! Something along the lines of Redline, Amsoil, or Royal Purple synthetics...

As these 2 cars are our daily drivers, SD wifes, D is mine. We do not have any gassers, except for my 71 F250.
ALL maintenance is done by me and are serviced regularly, including the brake fluid changes, trans. etc.
Mobil 1 15-50 in both, NO oil leaks, knock on wood!
And the 300D is going to take us on a 2,200 mi. trip next week.
Would take the SD, but rear end ratio to low. (85MPH speedo).

well, i

seldom run the oil longer than my limit, 3000 if dino, 5000 if synthetic. but my car is often dirty. and i don't run the tires much past .5 tread wo putting new ones on. and i change the shocks when most folks would keep driving them because i like a good ride. i also am pretty good about the air filters and fuel filters.

and because i am running six cars and two trailers not counting my antique car i keep a log of all work and all fill ups on each car. if i didnt i could never remember what i have had done to which car.

but they dont get washed much. sorry.

I see where this thread is going

How bad do you abuse your ride?

I keep mine up, and take care of them.

I do not 'MAINTAIN' my 300SDL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I care for her passionately..... I give her everything she needs and sometimes give her things that I want and feel she should have for my enjoyment...... Her maturity allows for some things to be delayed based on her level of need - knowing that it will be done soon (like her little incontinence issue in the driveway)..........

She appreciates the fact that we are trying to be more evironmentally conscience and loves the current 25% blend of WVO - kinda like perfume.... She smells great - especially amongst friends - easy to start a conversation.

I truly hope that this makes more sense than the original question...........

I am sure there are those out there that may feel the same way - but then again..........

==============================

As I stand up in front of all of you I say:

My name is Stephen and I am a dieselholic!!!!!!!!!

==============================

To end this little note - again - Thank You to all of you who have responded to my inquiries - and who have posted information over the past many years....... I search way more than I post - and my life is happy.........

==============================

As I sit here this evening - I raise my margarita to you..........

Stephen

P.S. - And yes - I am happily married, 46, and the SDL belongs to our dog..... SDL stands for "Shaggy's Dog Limo" - Although Shaggy would really like a 87 Diesel Wagon....... Go Figure

Yeah, my car is filled with clutter. I change the fluids regularly but I use the cheap stuff (can you say 88 cents for one quart of oil? I know I can....)

Keep em nice

I really like to keep my cars in good shape. I try to do as much of my own maintainence as possible, but now living in a retirement community and having sold "ALL" my tools just five years ago at auction, I work with a real handicap.
But I am always looking to pick up the basic tools to keep my very good running W123 300 Turbo running its best. It loves WVO greatly and I have been running 60 to 70 percent WVO this summer. I just picked up the 27 mm socket for the front crank this morning and I bought two 14 mm open ends, (very thin ones) at the flea market to bend for valve adjustment. I change oil and service the transmission very regularly, but find that just a little messy, so the Indy that keeps the 96 Towncar in shape will work on the Mercedes also. The Lincoln is beyond me. If it stops, call the tow truck. We did just put on a fast 6000 miles on it in July, and it was a great ride and fuel mileage was very good, but I just can't get myself to work on that car.
I am 73 years old now and find it difficult to get under the vehicles and even more difficult to get up and off the creeper. But when it cools off I will take the time to get under my Mercedes to check things out and also under my parts car to remove the starter and exhaust. I just can't send that beauty to the scrapper until I get everything I want off. I am still hoping that some other member will be able to make use of the fine doors and other body parts on that 83 W123. Price is very low, free if you want to come by and take it off yourself. Color is very dark blue, almost black. Front fenders I am keeping. Interior is very worn, but seats are good - parchment interior. Write me if you need more infomation.

I maintain my wagon pretty well mechanically but can never seem to keep up with the cleaning of the inside. It gets a mess so quick! The outside is always maintained.

My beater 240 gets the fluids changed and thats about it. I just put a set of used tires on it today versus the wagon which has new tires. And...you guessed it...the used tires came off the wagon.

Cheers,

Bill

Hey,
I do as much as I can as time allows.
In the past 6 months:
Replaced brake fluid with synthetic
Replaced oil 2-3 times
Adjusted valves twice
Put in a woodruff key to correct timing
Repaired vacuum pump and vacuum system
Replaced ball joints
One diesel purge and oil filters
Two new front tires
2 coats of wax

Things to do:
Replace tranny fluid - as soon as the filter comes in. Probably next weekend
Subframe bushings and whatever other rubber needs to be replaced
Clean and test injectors

I think I do a pretty good job for a weekend mechanic keeping it in shape inside and out.
