I know this is way off subject but has any one any knowledge of Honda Civics?
I need to replace a headlight on a 1990 Civic and can't access the bottom bolt for the assembly. How do you get to it?
I tried finding a Honda forum but they were all about body kits and stuff.

Phil - go over here RICE Nobody ask me how I know this. Was looking at the headlight stuff for you very weird, here is a sample:
The Process
First things first:

Remove the headlights from the car by taking off the front bumper (center plastic clips, 2 lower 10mm bolts, 2 screws under the bumper, 2 screws at each fender)
Then, remove the headlights by taking off the 4 10mm bolts from each headlight. Don't forget to disconnect the headlight connector and the corner bulb (once the headlight is free).
Ok, the headlights are now off the car and ready to be disected. :naughty:

- Start by removing the light bulb from the housing.
- Preheat the oven to 325 deg.
- When the oven is ready, place the headlight housing onto a baking sheet and put it in the oven for appx. 2 min (you may need to repeat this step until the silicon is plyable enough to work with)

Thanks for all the info. Thats just amazing how you have to do all that to change a headlight, thank god its not my car even if I'm doing the work.
I can't believe I needed to go to my favorite MB site to find out about a Honda.
This just makes me appreciate my MB that much more.

Good Grief ! Get rid of that Honda... the first time I needed to change the bulb on my 123 I found that they had even included finger knobs on the screws needed to change it ... so no tools were even needed....

John , how did you know about that site ?

We have a low mileage 92 Honda Accord... but if the headlight needs replacing it will go on Ebay.

the headlight bulbs come out from the back....the headlight HOUSINGS comes out from the front...it never needs changed if you avoid running into things..

no I've never actually removed one on mine.

A gravel truck went by at about 80 mph dropping gravel and I lost the headlight, turn signal and radiator.

My son had it book marked, started reading it one day out of boredom. There are some wild DIY repairs that you do in the kitchen like the one that was partially C/P above. I could see my other half asking "What are you baking?" - aahh.... Headlight Frames

He describes the use of sandpaper or abrasives, which will remove the (admittedly worn) surface protection of the lens. Then he uses the equivalent varnish or urethane paint. The results should match the photographs; however this finish could quickly erode, leaving a hazed lens with no surface protection.

This stripped off surface coating has also been a problem with all Joey mods which involve abrasives or polishes. Do not use abrasives on headlight lenses if you can avoid it.

A preliminary experiment with acrylic floor wax (Future) yields good results on headlights, and excellent results on VW side markers, turning old white side markers to clear. I'm not sure how long the acrylic wax lasts, but it shouldn't adversely affect the existing lens finish.

So my approach (other than the "Bosch E-code with glass lens" mod) is
to try the acrylic wax. Another alternatives are sending in $5 to get the 303 Products stuff to try their stuff out:

(note: Not only don't I have any affiliation with them, but I have no idea if their stuff even works!)

Like I suggested above, on my car, I'd stick with whatever is cheapest and then get glass lens E-codes, preferably whatever is OEM for MBZ. (I had e-codes since about '79, and since '81 on my MBZ.) Oh yes.. you'd have to do some sheet metal work to get those MBZ E-Codes on a Honda! But there are almost as many aftermarket E-Code lights for Hondas as are made for VW. Don't forget to get her a set of smoked Alteza taillights etc., etc., etc.
