				300SD A/C charging Question

I,ve got an 1980 300sd. I bought an adapter kit to charge it with R12A. However, none of the adapters will fit the low-side port. It appears to be a 7/16" flare with a schraeder valve in it. As I peruse my manual it calls for a line connection adapter 7/16" to 1/4". Any idea on a source for an adapter or a work-around? It appears that I could remove the fitting and replace it with 1/4" but I'm just a little shy on refrigerant and don't want to have to do a full service. Neither of my other 300SD's (both 5-8 months newer) have this large fitting. Thanks..
