Weight of 300D engine - which stand to use

I am about to put my 1980 300D engine on an engine stand for
a tear down and rebuild.
How heavy is this engine ? The stand I have now is rated for 750 pounds.
I can get a stronger stand if needed.
I seem to remember that a 454ci Chevy was in the 680 pound range.
This 300D seems a little lighter than that .

Any ideas from anyone ?

Thanks

I think these engines weigh between 500 and 600 lbs....definatly no where near 700.......and probbaly under 500 with everything removed from it before you hoist it out.....

It will be pan to valve cover, no manifolds. That head is pretty heavy though.

Turbos?

The turbo engines are quite a bit heavier? Maybe not for just a long block, though? Beefier crank and whatnot....

Complete or longblock?

Under 600lbs. with all the trimmings, or just for the long block?

It says it in this thread on this site, they say 450-500lbs....

Thank you everyone for all your help.
I'll be back with more questions as I start to get the lower end
opened up.
The head has been reconditioned, the injector pump rebuilt and
calibrated, the timing chain is new too. After 294,000 miles
is just would not start. I am going to go after the pistons and rings,
of course replacing all the lower end bearings in the process.

guide?

Actually i have an engine on a stand (617T) which i think is rated to 750 lbs also.. just be careful becuase it can tip easily towards the end that the stand only has one wheel. I had moved my engine on the stand to my new place and had a wooden dolly under part of the stand.. when we went to pull it out - of course the engine tipped and landed on the end of the engine (that goes towards firewall) - luckily it didn't slam real hard so i don't think it cracked anything.

Anyway - is there any particular guide you are using to rebuild the engine? or just using knowledge that you allready have? I know on the spare engine i need to replace the bearings in the bottom end and the gaskets and stuff, but is there a good manual out there that is devoted to rebuilding one of these engines?

I happened to buy the repair manuals published by MB from the dealer.
I got these about 20 years ago. By now everything is probably on CD.
Also picked up a Haynes manual for comparison.
The factory MB manuals are broken into several separate books.
One for body, one for engine, one for electrical.
Between all these resources I expect to be able to correctly
get all the specs I need for rebuild.
I'll share what I learn as I go on.

Please post your progress with pics.
I also second the recommendation that you be very careful when moving the engine around on that stand. The end with a single wheel is not very stable. If you have another stand with a wider stance, it would be better to use.
