Maybachs will have diesels

I was reading an article yesterday in the Houston Chronicle about Mercedes-Benz's diesel models coming to the U.S., and the very last paragraph mentioned MB will be putting a diesel engine in the Maybach. Sounds cool to me, what kind of engine do you think they'll use in it? V8 or larger seems likely to me, with a turbo or two.

Well, I found out now. MB put a tri-turbo 3 liter v6 in their SLK320CDI. They're going to put two of those together and make a V12 diesel for the Maybach.

Whats the point of a diesel maybach? Do you have any performance numbers on this new turbo diesel?

I think it's supposed to have at least 400hp.

Homer's "car" was an AMC Rambler (I think). It was on Ebay a few years ago with the seller nearby in Northridge, CA. I think Nancy Cartwright owned it or at least posed for some pictures with it. Pink with holstein cow seat covers, fuzzy dice.

The logic seems strange because the people who can afford a Maybach can definitely afford the gas for it.

Maybe they're trying to improve the image of diesel through branding?

I think that's the reason why. MB is trying to show that the diesels can run with the "big dogs" now, not just confined to the base model cars anymore, they can burn rubber now instead of just leisurely accelerating to speed. If you buy a Maybach, the last thing on your mind will surely be fuel prices.

I could see them as corporate limousines for execs. The irony is that it's still a limo and you ought not to race a limo unless the crew of your Gufstream is waiting. Even then, you don't want too much acceleration at any one time otherwise you'll get all that Cristal all over one's suit, or dress.

I think they still race them. How else are you going to find out if the Maybach 62 really has a 0-62.4 mph time of 5.4 seconds?

The owner of the Amway Corporation, Richard DeVos, whom lives quite near me(Amway is about 7 miles outside GR), owns a maybach 62. My friend works at the desk in his church for a summer job, and he saw one pull up outside the doors, he talked to the driver, and found out it was Richard DeVos's car and he had had his driver bring some people to the church for a funeral that was going on. That was quite amazing, I didn't know anyone in this area had one, I'd never seen one in my life except at the autoshow in March, where they had both models on display.....it was the first time my friend had ever seen one, he even got to see it drive away. Needless to say, he was drooling/impressed. I want to be his chauffer!!!

Or if someone is trying to kidnap the passenger. Maybe a diesel Maybach will be featured if "Ronin 2" is ever filmed.

People that should be buying a $300k+ car couldn't care less if fuel cost $1 a gallon or $5. An Amx black card will take care of that. Besides I would imagin a large chunk of the Maybach's out their will have drivers, I doubt the owners could even tell you what fuel costs.

Maybe MB will make one just to show that the technoligy is their but again, at that level fuel economy means nothing. An engine that is very quite, powerfull, and doesn't smell is more important.
