Fuel Filter and Transmission Fluid

I have been told that during fuel filter change by filling the new filter with transmisson fluid will clean the injectors.
Since these things can run on used veggie oil this may actually be correct, anyone know?

Since we know that transmissions have problems with varnish buildup... and the MB manual calls for changing the autotrans fluid every 30 to 50,000 miles.. I would not trust it for that..
Use Diesel Purge or something like that made for cleaning injectors.

I think this subject has been beat to death. In the "old days" atf was commonly used for that purpose. Unfortunately, the atf back then was much different from the atf now. While this is one of those situations where you can do it and get by with it, it probably isn't the best thing to do. As leathermang stated, use a product intended as an injector cleaner. I usually fill it with diesel fuel additive, but if you have it diesel purge would certainly work as well.

I would use Diesel Purge to fill the filter. Heck, I would run that directly into the injectors PLUS fill the filter.

I've heard it before

I first read about it on this site

http://www.bright.net/~vwdiesel/atf.htm

supposedly his diesel vw went 400K miles - easily believable and i don't think the ATF really had that much to do with it but no problems directly resulted from using it so it may not make a difference using it or not.

wow - way to type a run on sentence...

I think Marshall Booth said there was a SPECIFIC MB service litature saying that use of ATF would cause injector coaking.
I'd stay away from what worked for truckers 30 years ago.
