came across some hastings oil filters to fit MB diesels.. specifically the 240D

just wondered what the opinion is on them?.. I see where Amsoild uses Hastings ase their distributor and has them private label the amsoil stuff.

I'm from the school of "any new filter is better than an old one" i dont order my parts from the internet, i dont pay the dealer, i use what i can get locally.

none of my cars have ever died an early death because i bought a part from a McParts store....

how much are these amsoil filters? why would they be better?

The SDL gets OE filters, the SD gets whatever I cen get cheaper.

When I changed the air filter out in the SD I replaced an old Mann with a new STP. The STP was a complete pos filter compared to the Mann. It had like 1/2 the filter media, and insted of nice soft foam like stuff around the edges for a good seal had cheap hard plastic.

Their is a difference in quality. Whether it matters in the long run is another story.

I was always wondering the difference myself. Today while I was at the dealership I bought the OEM filter that was 12 bucks. I guess it's worth to spend the extra few dollars every 3 months. You can sort of tell the difference in the way that it is made (it looks better).
