Its a hydrocarbon refrigerant. Do a search on "alternative refrigerants" and "duracool" and you'll have all the reading material you possibly could want.

Quick and dirty is
  • it works better than 134a
  • It's cheaper than R12
  • It's FLAMMABLE
  • It's illegal in some states

R12 is cheap enough (just bought 3lbs for $63 off Ebay), why not use the original/best refrigerant for your car?

When my 84 300D's A/C was getting weak I got EPA609 certified so I could just get another can or two of R12 legally.

Boostnbenz is on the right track IMHO. I bought R12 a few months ago for $14.06 per pound. Why would it be worth using junk refrigerant to save $5 or even $10 per pound?

Have a great day,

Thumbs up

Yea.. When I got my 300 it was already converted to 134A.

So I was looking at a possible better option....

btw Pretty sure I need to replace center vacuum pods....
