New W126 couple of quesitons...

I just bought a 1990 350SDL w/ an 86 300SDL engine . I have a couple questions:

1. There is no "fuel pre-filter" the small clear plastic filter in the engine bay, shouldnt there be one before the regular fuel filter? I have some I could splice into the line...

2. I dont see a hand primer pump so how should I prime the fuel system after I change the regular fuel filter?

Thanks!
Zack

Where did you find that combination??

1. Definitely. The prefilter should be in the supply line from the tank, ahead of the fuel pump.

2. Welcome to life with the 603. No hand pump for you. Fill the regular filter with clean fuel and tighten it back up. Start the engine. It will stall. Crank it a bit (no more than 30 seconds). It should start and run within this time. It might stall again. Just repeat.

That's a good setup you have there if the engine doesn't have too many miles on it.

Just cut the rubber line and splice the filter in their. Mine sits right before the oil cooler lines if that helps you. I don't think it matters where it is, as long as it is in the feed line.

The prefilter goes before the fuel pump.

Three Hints : 1. Warm up the engine BEFORE you change the fuel filters. The engine will restart easier. 2. Since the fuel in your fuel can is not clean (after all, these filters in your car are there to filter the fuel that you get at a "gas station"), go to WalMart and get a plastic bottle of fuel cleaner, fuel cetane booster,or fuel supplement, etc. and use this to fill up the spin on filter. The engine will restart, with a few misses, rather easily. 3. You don't have to fill the pre-filter.

Also helps to floor the pedal while "prime cranking."
