Testing overboost sensor
Hey all,
1992 300D 2.5 Turbo, would like to bypass overboost sensor to see if it is bad, per the archives. I believe I have found the unit, but am unsure if I should remove the vacuum line and plug it or leave it open to the air..... Thanks for the advice.. -m

The simple test is to blow in one end and test for air out the other. If it fails that, either replace it or clean it. I've cleaned a couple with brake parts cleaner. I don't know if they still work. They let air through. I didn't actually put voltage across to see if they close.

Oh, the bypass test is to connect the line from the intake manifold directly to the ALDA. Leave the switchover valve without hoses. I see no point in doing that if you can blow air freely through the switchover valve.

And a ps - you bypass the switchover valve, not the overboost sensor. You can pull off the wire from the overboost sensor but I've yet to hear of one stuck in the overboost mode. Usually the inlet of the sensor gets caked with goop and it loses its ability to sense.
