Anybody modified their fuel opening to take the larger filler nozzle?

Once or twice I've come across a diesel station with a larger filler nozzle that will not fit in my 85 300SD. I'm pretty sure that most truck stops also have the larger filler nozzles so it is probably not a far off guess that at least somebody here has modified their vehicle to use them.

Any comments . . . .

I use them quite often. They will fit in without any chages, just not all the way.

It takes a bit of skill to use the high fow nozzles without shooting it out the filler tube when it's full. You must listen for the gurgle and throttle the flow unless you like your pants smelling like Diesel.

Boy is that ever the truth...
I think the flow of the big nozzles would still kick fuel out of the neck even if you modified the filler neck because it comes up SO fast it tends to non kick off in time (esp if there is foam).

I generally don't mind standing there for the few min it takes to fill up with one of those If you want it to be automatic then you could mod the filler neck. I would just be weary of the fuel making a splash for the ground.

The only nozzles I see that are that big are the tuck stop variety. Never have that problem on the reguar diesel nozzle.

Some of us get our fuel at odd places

Mine comes out of an above ground tank used to fill large tanks

The BP at the corner has one diesel pump off to the side. One side of the pump has a regular nozzle and the other side has the huge truck nozzle that doesn't fit and splashes out. I found that out on my way to school, many people asked what I smelled like all day.

It's a tight fit but, truck nozzles fit in all of my W123s...the biggest problem is that the flow rate on those pumps is so daggone high and the neck on the car's tank so small, that even with the nozzle cutoff you'll usually get an overflow.

Few min? More like several seconds on most of the high-volume pumps. I love it. I just wish those nozzles fit in my pickup tank.

Even the slower, smaller diesel nozzles are way faster than most every gasoline nozzle. Change the filler neck? - seems like a solution looking for a problem.

hell a super speedy fillup just creates more foaming that keeps you from getting it full. I have filled up with both types and find I need to take it easy regardless becasue of the foaming.

I don't believe I have ever come across a station that does not have at least one small nozzle. I've also noticed that more and more stations now have a diesel pump in the "car" area. If not, there is usually a small nozzle at one end of the truck area.

Damn near thought the amount wheel for cents was going to accelerate right out of the pump when using the large truck nozzles.
