Thumbs up Fan Clutch question... 603 motors.

Why exactly can't an OE metal fan clutch car's clutch work with the newer plastic fan (I hope that makes sense )? I found a good deal on a new 603 clutch but it's for a metal fan and damn the luck I have a plastic fan currently...
