Rear windows don't move ... where to start?
This is another of my "I want to know even though I'm not going to immediately do anything with the information" posts. I'm just curious, and am thinking about future "projects" to restore my car to full function across the board.
Neither of my rear windows go up or down. They were in this condition when my dad gave me the car, and I have no idea how long they've been like this or in what manner they stopped working. When you press the button for them to go down, nothing happens. Obviously it isn't a real crisis, as they are stuck firmly up, as opposed to down. I'd like someday to have four working windows in the Benz. So where would you start when trying to diagnose and fix this malfunction? Is it something I could do with standard tools on my own without creating a huge mess (doors lying in the driveway, screws and bolts rolling everywhere, wrenches ascatter ... you can imagine)? What parts should I be prepared to replace? Again, it's not something i'm go to go out and do tomorrow. It's just something I want to keep on the back burner in case I ever get a long, sunny day in which I feel like playing around and doing so productively.

Is the rear window "lock out" button stuck down? That would dissable both rear windows. Coffee, coke, etc. can get spilled on the window switches and cause them to malfuction (stick).

If the switches don't pan out (make sure to jumper them as well) you have to take off the door panels and jump the motor to the battery to see if it's functional. If the motors do work you have a wiring issue.
