Question is how do u disabled the injector of the dead cyl?
Do you route the injector line to the return lines. My bro has a 300D with a dead cyl too. One of the valve spring was not working. So he can take out the injector, let her run on 4. |

im with larry
with 260 it should fire, so keep it running. hope that a valve adjustment fixes it. fly out drive it home. forget disabling the cylinder. that is for getting home when you are caught in the oklahoma dust bowl in the 30s stuff. could be simple to fix. or could be valves. bottom end is the worst case and prob the least likely. also could be head gasket or cracked i suppose. in that case you wont be able to drive it for long without fixing.

Will a 240D run on 3 cylinders?

Glinko, I wish I knew as well. It could stand the boost in power. I was told to disable two cylinders and when they wore out just use the other two. That way I could get the engine to a million miles. I can only speak for myself though as a 240d owner and would like the power of three cylinders firing. Four cylinders firing would be unbelievable. Apparently in germany you can hook up all four and tear up the autobaun in your 240d. The nicest thing about runing on two cylinders is that you never have to clean off bug hits.

want to run an engine with a clyinder down. it is unbalanced and the vibes will be very hard on everything. this car has low compresssion... another matter.
running an eight on seven is not as noticalbe since there are 7/8 ths of the cylinders on duty. even more so on a 12 or 16. i once read of a concours 30s v16 cadillac that was running only on 8 cylinders since there were two distributors and one had laid down. the owner started the car up and moved it for the judges who didnt notice that it was 'only' running on 8. if they had noticed he would have never won the award he did! course, the more cylinders there are the more things to break and maintain, too. i know you guys were kidding there at the last but sometimes it is a little hard to tell where the kidding starts and the bad ideas end. tom w

Yes you are right. Nobody really enjoys driving a car with a cylinder missing periodically or totally down.. The out of balance factor is never really pleasant nor is the reduction in available power. Even on a v-8 it is still objectionable.
