1987 300SDL Rear Window Defogger

My, recently acquired, 300SDL lacks a rear window defogger. I was under the impression that the electrical connector for this item was located under the rear seat, but am unable to locate any loose connectors there. There is what appears to be an amplifier for the after-market stereo installed there, though. Any help on locating the connector for the defogger?

the connectors are behind the left and right trim panels on the side wall next to the rear window. I am referring to the panel that has the rear reading lights mounted in it.

Kindly explain what you mean by "lacks".

Do you have a defogger that is not functioning or does the glass fail to have the imbedded wires?

There is no element. I sourced one out, but wanted to check that the connections were there before I ordered it. Will pull the pillar panels to see what's there and, if the connectors are there, cycle the defogger controller and check the voltage to ensure they are truly connected.

So, the glass was replaced with aftermarket glass without any element?? Probably quite expensive with the element imbedded.

LMK if the relay is not doing the job. That's the problem I had with this one.

I'm sure the connectors must be present.

Oops! Silly me, I'm so used to the big wires running across the back of the 300DT, that I didn't look closely enough at the rear windshield. There are TINY wires running through it, now I just need to check everything to ensure it is working properly

Yup. My buddy has one of these cars and the elements are nearly invisible, and spaced very close together. Now THAT'S luxury.
