Position 1 accesories stay on even with ignition switch removed

Hey guys,

So I realized a week back that all of my position 1 12v accessories stay on even when the key is on the off position and removed. I first noticed it when my radio was staying on which drained my battery.

I posted about this once before and it was discussed as possible that my ignition switch was bad. So I've replaced my ignition switch and the problem persist.

I removed the plug from the ignition switch and the issuer persist. Which would mean it was something downrange from the ignition switch, right?

What is between the engine bay and the ignition switch plug that would control the key on accessories for only key position 1 staying on? I verified it was not just the radio by testing the switched power wire on a volt meter. Still getting power no matter if key is in or out.

What else could it be?

Thanks!

Not even gonna acknowledge your attitude. It was a fuse. Close this thread for all I care. I fixed this. Patting myself on the back................But as far as you knew, I was kind of in a pinch and mildly upset at the fact that I just busted my a$$ for nothing. And you found your sarcasm to be acceptable................because?

Thanks for the helpful post though.

Apparently, you don't understand the word "sarcasm" because none was offered.

Thanks for not following the rules of the forum. The fact that there is no continuity in your problem and your solution is clearly of no interest to you.

You're right. Not sarcasm. Something else. Maybe just attitude. Either way, sorry for not following the forum rules. It's just, I'm literally sitting in the car with the dash pulled apart, and had I not just resolved my issue and seen your post, It would've been upsetting.

Exactly what are "all" the Position 1 12 volt accessories besides the radio?

Sounds like your radio was directly wired to the vehicles # 30 always hot circuit. Have you followed the power lead from the head unit to wherever it's connected?

Audio installers often tap that circuit before the ignition switch, somewhere in the vacinity of the headlight switch (there is always +12 volt power to that switch) or they run a fused wire into the fuse box and connect somewhere.

It was a fuse issue. I checked that first thing. I installed the radio a while ago and the issue started recently so I was pretty sure it wasn't that. Thanks though!

I could see where a fuse for the radio or other 'accessory' might have popped loose and shorted across to another always-hot fuse or terminal.
Is this what happened?
Personally, I've wired the radios in most of my diesels to operate without needing to have or leave the key in the ignition.

Happy Motoring, Mark
