California car - what does it change?

I had to replace my door strap today and found a build sheet behind the driver's rear door. When I ran the codes, I got a Cal-car out of it in addition to the other options.

The car was bought in Dallas in 1995 brand new, but I get a Cal car. What's different from a non-Cal car?

I don't think there are any differences when it comes to the OM606 engine, as it's been 50-state emission legal from the beginning. In the model years 85-87 the CA version had the trap oxidizer which the federal version didn't have. I think in your case all it's saying is that the car complies with CA regulations, i.e. all states.

CA cars may be less likely to have rust than eastern cars, for sure, but they are definitely prone.

NM and AZ and many times TX are the best states, in my small opinion. And the people there know it.

CA cars are rust free... and also rustproffing free...

Drive them up here for 12 years tops (if u wash religiously), gut the interior, then throw it away...

WI has MINT interiors sitting in junkyards and CA has exelent metal in them too... Can we switch, I can sit on a cracked (but not pokey) seat, but I'm sick of bondocars...
