Window motor -- gears not consistently meshing
Hello all. I request the wisdom of the group once again.
On my 1981 300D , the Right Front power window regulator (as haynes calls it) is getting power and operating. Only the gears are not consistently engaging so the window does not go up and down well enough to use. I have not seen anything regarding replacing of gears or repairing a regulator. Can I fix this regulator? Why would the gears not be engaging? At first glance it appeared the teeth are all there (the door panel is off). I will take a close look though. Thanks, Last edited by biopete; 11-19-2005 at 08:10 PM. |

I had one that was bent/warped such that the gears would not fully engage in all positions. In my case, I was able to remove it and bend it back into the correct position so it worked fine. If that doesn't work you're probably looking a a new (or used) regulator.

does your window go "move-pop-move-pop-move-pop" and when it gets to the top just "pop pop pop"?
If so...plan on replacing the gearing part of the regulator. Already did the drivers window and working on doing the passenger ![]() |

Like the others, I agree its the regulator. As long as the switch is depressed power goes to the motor. If you keep pushing "up" after the window is closed, the torque from the motor can warp the regulator frame over time. These things are pot metal, and while I've heard of people successfully bending them back into shape, the problem always seems to come back. I eventually broke down and bought a new one - depends on your plans for the car.
