Can a 210 diesel be had for 12-16k?

mother saw a 2000 model 210 gasser and really liked it. i want to see her in a diesel because it'd get the mileage of an economy car and have the heft/safety of a benz!

are they all 20-25?

Maybe, check the 96 and 97 year models out, they have the non turbocharged OM606.

You get a little more mpg but you also realize diesel is harder to get and more expensive than regular or even premium. Been that way for a while so with the savings and the extra cost it might be a push.

Their was a 98 E300D with 75k miles in the local paper for about a week, they wanted $18k for it!

Anyway yeah you should be able to get a nice 96-97 E300D for that kind of money. For $16k a 98 isn't out of the queston either.

w210 diesels sell at a serious premium over their gas counterparts.

I have a number of w120 gassers right now and I dare say that they are nearly 50% less in price than the diesels.

And they still get roughly the same economy. My 1999 E430 gets 26mpg and has 300 hp!

thanks for the replys yall!

my father really likes the 210s looks, mother really likes its interior. she says its both sporty and 'old fashioned' i guess the latter comment comes from its w123-like styling. she laughed and said they havent changed much and i think shes right(until the 211s, i suppose)

i asked this because there is a 210 diesel, a 99 model, for 25 grand in our local auto trader and i really dont follow cars that expensive.there is really no point when you only get to drool on them, huh?

they(the 603s) really dont do better than 22-25mpg on the highway?

another thing that i am assuming would be better in the diesel is the sheer number of sensors that unleaded automobiles have, or is that a concern with this diesel as well? we just spent 1,000 to replace every sensor on moms intrepid and i think it'd be a selling point to them that the new car didnt have as many!

i guess we'll be on the lookout for an e320 then

My E420 got averaged about 25, maybe 26 on a straight highway run at an average between 70 - 75 mph. Same power as Herb's. The E320 gassers are even better with fuel economy. Breaking 30's at times. Both the M112 and the M104 (I prefer the "soul" of the M104, but others prefer the features of later models).

IMHO, it's kind of like comparing a W140 S320 and a W140 S350 turbodiesel.

Turbo charged 606's seem to get mid 20's around town if you have a lead foot. Mid to low 30's on the highway should be expected.

Personaly I like power and would look for an E430. In 2000 the W210 got lots of nice updates so if a newer one comes along that is a plus.

Even with it chipped, I get about 28-30 with a mix of highway and city

John probably does the worst, last time I talked to him he said he was only getting about 25. But John moves, he uses the pedal as an on/off switch.

i dont see how a e320 or a e430 can get 25-30 mpgs. my sister that just bought a 05 clk320 gets around 22 mpgs. this is all highway milage and she really babies the throttle.

I was getting about 32 MPG with my N/A 606 until the frigid weather got us last week. A few shortish trips really kills the milage.

To answer the OP, I paid less than 10k for my '96 with about 186k miles, a few dings and some interior damage.

Yeah but Joe did she break it in yet? For the first few thousand miles the motors are pretty tight.

Many members have reported high 20's in their E320's. Heck my friends S320 seems to be getting low 20's in town! That thing is amazing.

Funny you should mention "harder to get." I was very low on fuel yesterday so I exited the DC beltway in Lanham, MD in search of a service station with diesel. I went to three different locations but no diesel. After about 15 miles I started getting nervous but eventually found a station selling diesel closer to Landover, MD. Interestingly most of the stations near my house in Annapolis sell diesel. Re: price of fuel. I've found that diesel is more expensive than premium in the winter but less expensive than regular in the summer. So perhaps the price of diesel is a wash?

I get 32mpg consistently (city and highway mix) with my 95 E300D...with a 23+ gallon tank I usually fill up after 650 miles.
