fix a key where the plastic came off?

Is there a way to fix a MB key where the plastic came off? (except going to the dealer and have one made for 35 bucks). It's ugly now and hard to use.

I just go the the lock smith and get a new key and all for $5.

They're probably using brass keys, which are not good.

ive got a key made by a locksmith not brass ill tell ya that.. but im going to get some dealer vin cut keys so i can see whats wrong with my lock.. the vacuum lock system works great its just the mechanical lock doesnt turn at all
