added some oil, wow what a difference!
hei,
i have been planing to convert to wvo later when it is not arctic weather any more -8 out now. (northern finland right on the arctic circal) but i was at a shop and a 1 liter rapeseen oil was .95c and diesel is 1.02 or so here now. i had about 20 - 25 liter #2 diesel in the tank. i desided to buy some oil and dump in into the tank. the looks i got when i opened the oil and poured it into my tank..... well i also added 1.5 liter RUG to dilute a bit deu to the cold. within 2 minutes driving the change was amazing! the engine was quieter, smoother, and the tack, tack tack. sound was significantly lower. also a small incrase in power, not much but still some. if she starts up well tomorrow morning i will start mixing in rapeseen oil regularly. even as new oil it's a bit cheaper then diesel and no need to filter or treat. i have also reserved my first steady supply of waste oil from a burger joint, 25 liters every 5 days. my plane (when i have the €€€) is to build a compleate heating system for the car and run 100% wvo. the system i plan is 2 220v coolant heaters, 1 in the block and one with a thermostat on the bottom line out from the radiator going to the thermostat. a 12v circulation pump and battary charger and some sort of a propane fired burner with the engine coolant runing thru it. the system will run around the fuel filter to the back of the car thru the inside of the pasenger cabin (so not to be exposed to the extream cold out side) along with the new, larger fuel lines to the heated fuel tank in the trunk. this way i can plug the car in at night and keep every thing nice and hot. and if ever parked for a long time with out a plug in or if i need a fast warm-up then i can fire up the propane burner and run the 12v pump to circulate. of cource the safty of the propane burner will be abserved!!! i need to think it all over but thats the general idea. what do you experianced svo peaple think?

thanks but i rather build my own.
used and cheap/surplus materials = less € and a more costomized system! it makes more sence here in the deep cold.

Speaking of Rapeseed oil, I just read short interview In ClassicCars mag with an Australian man. He allegedly drives the oldest Citroen DS on a regular basis, 10-15k miles a year. He says he uses Rapeseed oil in his hydraulic system instead of the usual stuff(use to be whale oil) because it's 10Lbs cheaper a bottle and non hydroscopic. I was wondering if those who drive MB wagons could switch to Rapeseed as well, maybe even those who could use it instead of breakfluid. I did a short internet search and found that farm equipment can use it to replace regular hydraulic fluids, brake fluids etc. I assumed it would freeze up like any other veggie oil but I guess not.

it dose freeze. at -7c waste rapeseed oil (used once to deep fry at home) it's like a jel. thats whay i plan to make that extensive heating system. for now i mix with RUG and or diesel. at the moment i have a 20 liters diesel:4 liters oil:1.5 liter RUG. i will try to start it in the morning, that is the real test. in a glass jar test i did at -7 ambiant temps with 20%RUG\80% rapeseed oil looked like it was thin enogh to go into my fuel system. but i am just starting my experiments and time will tell. i will leave that sample and see what happens when it gets colder out as well as other samples with diesel and other solvents. use it as hydroulic fluid? that an idea. i'm sure the power steering system in the benz is as strong as the engine so i think it can take it. and for brack fluid, well that one system i don't whant to mess with
