Bad fuse connection?

My car had gauge trouble once; wasn't making good contact in the fuse box -

"It won't mess up any kind of alignment?" Nop, no problem

I would put a wrench or socket on it and if its the least bit lose, take it apart and sand the parts real good and tight it back up.

You didn't install a 180D dashboard into this car, did you???;)

I did the jumper trick. It seems to work fine.

My temp gauge is still not working. I cleaned to connection at the block to no avail.

I also check the gounds behind the gauge console. They seemed tight. Nice birds nest in those brown wires :(

Try this easy test

The temp and fuel gauges would go crazy before it quit and I just thought it was a shorted out instrument cluster. I swapped clusters from my wrecked '85 and still no dice. The weird thing is that the gauges would peg and every light in the cluster would come on when the speedometer cable touched the back of the cluster.

I took a jumper cable, hooked it from my EGR to my negative battery post and it started.

I didn't have time to look for my main chassis-engine ground because I was leaving on vacation but when I get back I expect to find it in pretty bad shape. Also my other electrical items worked fine up until and during the period when it wouldn't start.

:) A simple test for anyone with jumper cables, works every time there is a bad engine to body ground.:)

Sounds easy. Where is the EGR?

I see no one has mentioned this so here goes. Have you checked all your fuses? One of those loose grounds or??? could have blown a fuse. Fix the ground but the fuse is stil out.

Engine to battery jump.

neumann - 0P - I am interested in knowing how things came out with the troubleshooting and repair of this problem. -Thanks

I seem to have a similar problem. I have a 83 300 SD and after I installed the Euro headlights all my dashboard light went out a while after. Trying to trace the fault it came to my attention that I didn't have any power going through the #12 fuse which handles the dashboard amongst other things. So far I haven't had any luck yet tracing the fault to it's source. Oh, I also detailed the interior deeply, which in this case means I took all the carpets and seats out. I really would appreciate any suggestions.

Tach amplifier picture missing

Thanks a lot for you sharing your knowledge.

Unfortunately, the picture of the tach amplifier in the link you gave is missing. Other pictures are ok.

Can you remediate this please?

Tks.
