Need source for 300d rebuilt transmission
Can anyone recommend a source (or places to avoid) for ordering a 1984 300d rebuilt transmission? Adsitco seems to have pretty good prices. Anybody have first hand experience? Also, what other parts do I need to order or items should be replaced at the same time?
Thanks in advance! |

Adsitco has the prices but not the reputation in all cases. My indy mechanic in Raleigh was telling me about a fellow who is on his fourth transmission from these people.
Sun Valley, on the west coast, generally has the reputation. Adam (rg2098) recently bought one from them. Check with him.......or he'll post on here. Last edited by Brian Carlton; 12-29-2005 at 08:41 PM. |

You know, I have heard that transmission IS actually something you might consider goin to the dealer for, believe it or not. The warranty is something nice to have for a transmission. Plus the swap time/hrs is certainly not much, so the dealer rates are not terribly senseless. I am not sure the warranty will be there if you put it in yourself.
I would not think Adsitco is the first choice for a part such as this that is prone to failure. Good luck returning or getting any respect. Read their return policy and weep. But I have had luck with simple parts. There is a tech page about MBZ 123 trannies that is hosted by a company that sells many of them, also, they seemed genuinely interested in their quality.

Thanks!
I'll avoid Adsitco, and investigate the options you've mentioned.
Thanks, all! |

I'd ask the dealer as well, they are sometimes extremly competitive.
For example yeasterday my friend priced out a set of rear brake rotors for his E300D their, $45 each. At that price why bother ordering them online? Give Phil a call as well, I bet he can get rebuilt trans.

I have a reciept for my wife's car for an MB rebuilt, installed at a dealer three years ago. $2500 with a two year warranty.

All depends on how much time you have available. Sun Valley's trans has worked great for me. The biggest problem is that they won't ship to a residential address (understandable if you ask me), so ask a local indy if you can have it delivered there. It comes in this crate that reminds me of a big rubbermade container and you just dump your old one back in it and send it back (exchange). Total bill for me was around $1500 including shipping for everything and they do give a 1 year warrenty. If anythings wrong with the rebuild it will happen within the first year. "rebuilt" TQ is included along with a new modulator. Save your old saftey switchm doesn't include another. Things to consider replacing; rear mount flex disks driveshaft center bearing (my bearing was ok but the rubber housing was torn to shreds) engine mounts (i unbolted the main bolt from mount to engine in order to tip the engine back to gain access to upper bellhousing bolts) maybe rubber cooler lines if needed

Two good options. $2,500 to have the dealer get dirty is certianly tempting.
