We could be diesel exempt.

Its scary...usaully the people that don't know how to drive worth crap and don't pay attention to other cars on the roads are the soccor moms and football dads in their huge suburban/lifted crap/etc. and are putting the rest of us at danger with their carlessness.

Also the people that seem to drive these vehicles feel like they have something to prove...probably why they own the POS in the first place. You see many guys with clear indications of how small their manhood is trying to prove they are the bad-ass on the road by cutting people off and burning fuel at an amazing rate, and driving a vehicle that couldn't haul a load of stryofoam to save its life...

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a heavy duty vehicle for a heavy duty job (like hauling 3 tons of camper) but a perfect shiney bed that has only seen the christmas tree for a load is a joke...

I've driven our crew cab long bed before...but I was USING it to tow a car And I'll tell you what, I actaully concern myself with the safety of those around me in littler cars because I know they don't stand a chance if there is confrontation. I guess some people just let it get to their head...

Last year I sold my 93 Silverado that I had bought new and the bed didn't have a mark in it. I did haul more than Christmas trees. It's all about how you protect the bed and how you secure the load. There's no way I'd own a mini truck again. I hauled some furniture in the Silverado where years earlier, I had to make three trips for the same furniture with a Toyota. The Silverado got 17 MPG's and the Toyota got 23 MPG's. Smaller vehicle, better fuel economy? Let's do some math. So if you divide the 23 MPG's by 3 trips you actually only get less than 7 MPG's for the same load with the smaller vehicle.
Bigger is better.
Fuel and time wasted.
Let's go back discussing MB safety...

well

if you have need of a work truck, prob a big full size pickup is the way to go. i will take mine with a diesel and six manual thank you. (and get about the same mileage as my 350sdl). if you are just going to drive around, mini pickup is fine.

and as far as i know none of the pickups are very safe. i might venture that the new honda truck thingee is about as safe as any of them.

[QUOTE=P'bert]Isn't it about time to get the Hummers, Cowboy Cadillacs ("Off Road"), and other battering rams off the streets? They accomplish nothing more than waste dwindling stocks of petroleum, add to atmospheric CO2, and threaten the lives of everyone who drives sensible vehicles. I say "Tax 'em until they park 'em."
Seriously.

Please there is more oil in the ground today than was ever removed. The oil reserve stocks in the ground in the USA are huge. They will not utilize them until the price is astronomical. Do a search for a Canadian fellow who patented a design to remove over 90% of oil in previuosly worked sites. When his system is used on a drill site the end result is clean sand. There are quite enough of the people groanng the sky is falling as it is. Anyone remember the sun is dimming stories from last year? We pay enough taxes already don't we? Before you say no we don't keep in mind that 50% of the American work force pays 0 t0 2% of the taxes. The middle class gets hammered. The Tedley Kennedy's pay almost nothing in taxes. I just did my State and Federal tax returns tonight. I have to pay money. In Taxachusetts they actually have a vuluntary tax rate of 5.8% Vs 5.3%. I sure hope all the liberal guilt ridden folks who believe state income taxes are TOO low volunteered to pay the higher 5.8% income tax rate. First they tax the hummers, then my Mustang. Where do the save the world fools stop after that? Next they will want me to stop using my wood stove, and my outdoor wood charcoal BBQ grill. Let them drive whatever they want. Just make it a $500 dollar fine to talk on the phone when driving a car. John

wow, another suburban and MB driver!

I have both vehicles, I love them both, they both have their purposes. I have over 250Kmiles on my Gas suburban, and it still gets 24MPG, um, where is the problem? also, no accidents as I am a VERY defensive driver. (great following distances, full vision scan of problems.) how many times do I see morons driving right up to the road construction area even though tons of signs and flags warn of the lane closings. also the flashing lights never seem to disuade drivers on their phones from changing lanes before the lane blockage is reached... amazing.
if drivers would just watch the road in front of them, and not the bumper directly infront, it would reduce accidents by more than 50%. phone use is ok if you are WATCHING where you are going to be, not just the immediate space in front of you. Look for problems and possible situations WAY out in front (and this is much easier to do when you can SEE over the cars in front of you.)
and the H2 is just a suburban or taho with squared sheetmetal. same vehicle.

But people don't like commen sense. Russia is floating on oil, the only problem is the price per barrel isn't high enough yet to make it proffitable to pump. Northern Iraq (different then southern Iraq in many big ways) is loaded with oil it is coming out of the ground!

Heck we are sitting on 400+ years of coal in this country.

People like to scream the sky is falling, I get the feeling my grandkids may finally have fuel cells in their cars. (I'm 20btw)

The USA has the World's second largest supply of clean burning coal. When a certain Ex-President who now has a wife in the Senate signed a decree to make that huge deposit into a preserve. He forever denied the American people of a clean and CHEAP source of ultra clean burning coal. I wonder if it was just a coincidence that James Riyadi who funded Bubba in *all* the right ways happened to own the World's largest reserve of clean burning coal at that same time? I think not is the correct answer. As usual we American's all got bent over to grab hold of our ankles. Thanks a lot Bubba.. I am now being politically incorrect by going outside to light my wood charcoal in my charcoal chimney. I light 3 sheets of newspaper to light said charcoal chimney for use in my non-EPA approved (but efficient burning) ceramic BBQ grill. Time to send serious some serious smoke clouds billowing into the atmosphere once again folks to cook some dinner. Some day in my lifetime the EPA Nazi's will try very hard to ban outdoor wood charcoal burning BBQ grills, and wood stoves. I proudly own one of each. The latter saves oil, and costs less to heat my home than oil does. Bring on the acid rain. John

well we are far from a diesel discussion.

but for myself, it seems pretty clear that the actions of man is causing or accelerating the changing of the climate. the arctic ice is melting and i dont think that can possibly be a good thing.

and that fellow who says he is getting 24 mpg in his gas suburban must be smoking something other than diesel. i had a pretty nice 94 with a 350 and od and never topped 17mpg hiway driving 75. to get 24 you would have to drive maybe 32 mph.
