Cummins Swap
My question is inspired by another post, is it -possible- to swap a cummins engine and tranny into a 123? I understand suspension and I figure frame would have to be strengthened, but would it fit and be mountable? Even if the engine fit, could the tranny and rearend fit, or would you have to give the car a mild lift?
I find this topic fascinating for some reason. Does anyone know the weight difference between a 5cyl turbo diesel, and the cummins?

id like to see that man.. ive never seen a cummins up close but its probably bigger than the om 617 so you will probably have to mod the hood
isnt the cumins a v-8 turbo diesel? if it is id probably weigh more and the transmission is probably a little bigger |

The Cummins is a long and very heavy engine. I don't think there is any possiblity of getting it physically into the W123. And, if you managed to do it, what transmission would you utilize? Space would be a problem here as well.
Then........if you managed to do it.........and opened the rack all the way........the torque would probably flip the car over. ![]() |

the body flex man that w123 would look like a piece of wrought iron fence all twisted and decorative looking.. what if you get a w123 wagon and mid mound the engine behind you or next to you and have the tranny come to a foot before your new differential which can hold the torque and stuff.. if you ever do this youve got to put twin stacks on this so when she pulls off the line you lay some nice fog |

the only feasible way
would be to shorten a dodge truck frame and just use the 123 body tosit on top of it all.
the cummins weighs at least twice the 617. also the tranny and rear end necessary to handle the torque would be commensurate. tom w

Wow even the 3.9 liter 4cyl cummins weighs 370kg (815lbs
![]() However, it does produce 135hp @ 2500rpm & 500lb's of torque! ![]() The highest powered 3.9 4cyl produces 169hp and 600lbs of torque at 2500rpm! ![]()
