w123 trunk-argh!

Hello all,
I'd been longing for a older benz diesel for close to a year. Now, I was finally in a position to buy. I then found a 300d & 300sd. I'm a musician so I went ahead and brought my mesa 4x12 guitar cabinet- which fits in the trunk of a 1994 c280. Much to my frustration, it fits in neither of the 300d or 300sd trunks. It seems as though its not so much the size of the trunk, but the opening. Without lugging the cab around to find a fit, does anyone know of a larger trunk opening(newer or older benz) that might work. 190d, or newer 300? I know this is not really diesel specific but, this forum has always been extremely resourceful.
