I have an 82 240D. A while back when I first bought the car, I bought some non detergent motor oil. I've been adding a couple of ounces at each fill up of diesel because of the lower sulfer found in todays fuel...I want the injection pump to have a long life.

I've been looking through the archives and have noticed that many of you have been using Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst. Well I decided to buy some and I've starting using that and will continue to do so.

My question is, would I be doing harm to the engine or the injection pump by using an ounce Redline DFC and an ounce of the non-detergent motor oil combined? The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to use up all the non-detergent motor oil that I bought as a fuel additive.

I Know, This IS Predictable...

But here's my advice, if you haven't already done so, check out the six successive links to previous threads as regards the use of oil and such as a fuel addditive that I posted towards the end of the "Carbon Build Up" thread on this forum.

Personally, I wouldn't burn oil in my engine. The purpose of good maintenance is to avoid burning engine oil, so why do so intentionally? All of the lubrication you need in your fuel is included in Redline DFC or 85+ (they're identical, BTW).

Now, as you probably know already, Larry Bible swears by adding an ounce or so of the oil to his fuel at every fill-up, so who am I to argue with a guy with over 3/4 of a million miles on Mercedes diesels?

Also, I just found out from a chemist at Redline that we should all be increasing our dosage of DFC/85+ from an ounce per 20 gallons of diesel, to 4oz. per 20 gallons. It seems that Mercedes diesels need more of the stuff than other vehicles do, and we should disregard the dosage on the label.

Oh, and did you do the initial purge dosage of a full bottle when you started using the Redline?

I will now return to my armoured wine cellar and await the air raid...

friend of longston

Are we getting a little paranoid?
There is something in the 123 CD about damage that oil can cause to the diesel prechambers I think. Sound familier? I don't have the time now the try to find something on the CD.
